For my birthday I’ve spent the money I got as a present (plus some of my own) on a very fancy lock machine. It’s actually a coverlock machine, meaning it does regular ‘locking’ (or ’serging’ for the Americans out there) and can also be converted into a cover machine for stretchable single or double seams without the fabric being cut off. So far I’ve used it mostly for (very, yay) quickly cutting+finishing edges so I could move on to putting my project together a lot sooner than before
By the way the mechanics of these machines are truly amazing, I spent hours figuring how these lock stitches are created by the various loopers and needles (ofcourse you can also look it up on Wikipedia but believe me, it’s not the same as seeing it in action)
From Habbie I got a very bright daylight lamp so I can still see what I’m doing at night, plus a ton of small sewing goodies such as a box to store all my spools, a ‘bobbin saver’ and spare needles which came in handy right away as I had just broken one of my current ones while repairing his pants
Anyhow, I’m now all set for years of sewing creativity \o/
