under construction, as ever :)

eek, I’m on Twitter

June 14th, 2008 Posted in blogging, life | No Comments »

I have finally decided to give Twitter a try. Before I did not really see the point, or even had an idea how it would work but the movie below explains this quite well :)

My recent tweets should show up in this blog’s sidebar. If you want the full story you can ofcourse follow me on Twitter.

By the way the other ‘in plain English’ movies by Common Craft are also worth having a look at :)

Image recovery

Today I had some bad luck handling usually rather innocent equipment: an SDcard, a reader and my laptop. Somewhere along the way things went very wrong, because instead of importing my pictures my iPhoto crashed, and the data turned out to be corrupted (the camera couldn’t read most photos anymore, and my laptop gave I/O errors while trying to read the card). Rather sucky, because ofcourse I hadn’t imported my pics for months and now all seemed lost.

Luckily we have been able to recover some of the corrupted pictures, albeit some with more erm, creative colours….

Extra interesting: the blue one was pink in its original format, after downsizing it turned blue O_o

Kat dissen

Lockmachine \o/

April 22nd, 2008 Posted in creativity, gadgets, life | No Comments »

For my birthday I’ve spent the money I got as a present (plus some of my own) on a very fancy lock machine. It’s actually a coverlock machine, meaning it does regular ‘locking’ (or ’serging’ for the Americans out there) and can also be converted into a cover machine for stretchable single or double seams without the fabric being cut off. So far I’ve used it mostly for (very, yay) quickly cutting+finishing edges so I could move on to putting my project together a lot sooner than before :D

By the way the mechanics of these machines are truly amazing, I spent hours figuring how these lock stitches are created by the various loopers and needles (ofcourse you can also look it up on Wikipedia but believe me, it’s not the same as seeing it in action) :)

From Habbie I got a very bright daylight lamp so I can still see what I’m doing at night, plus a ton of small sewing goodies such as a box to store all my spools, a ‘bobbin saver’ and spare needles which came in handy right away as I had just broken one of my current ones while repairing his pants ;)

Anyhow, I’m now all set for years of sewing creativity \o/

Ceilingcat

Someone made a plan to create your own (paper) ceilingcat. Obviously we needed one for the office :D

Later I made a bigger one in colour, sorry for the poor picture quality:
