Themechoosing~
October 30th, 2006 Posted in bloggingAfter downloading and trying over 30 themes from themes.wordpress.net, i’ve now found a set of 3 that together seems to cover what i want. Probably some mixing madness is needed.
The Sunflower Theme is nice and colorful, it handles link-categories the way i want and pages are browsed on top. Also i very much like the pictures next to headings, that adds a bit of colour to otherwise boring bits of the page. Its downside is that looks rather ‘default’, the heading layout and the color of links are the same as the theme that WordPress comes with.
Less is Purple is altogether a bit too pale for my taste, and the headingpicture it comes with somehow reminds Habbie of a nipple. Another suboptimality is that pages are browsed from the sidebar menu, which i think is a bad thing because it mixes blog-content with unrelated pages. However the design as a whole is rather pleasing, particularly the dropshadow around the page, so it’s still a candidate for editing. By the way, i’ve also found a pretty example of an edit based on this style: librarygrrrl.net. Aparently she agrees with me on the where-to-put-the-menu issue, and it also shows some plugins being used that i might want to get too.
Blue Memories has a mix of these issues: links are in ‘default’ colour/font, which i dislike. It also has a bit of the paleness mentioned about the purple theme. However compared to that, it is closer to the layout i want (pages on top, menu to the right).
Oh well, all in all i like either of these styles well enough to use while setting up the site. I still have to mess around a bit with plugins too, so let’s see how well that goes before making a final choice for a (to be modified) ‘main’ theme ![]()

Glad you like my edits of less-is-purple. Good luck setting up your blog - I find that when I start delving into it, hours and hours can pass without me noticing. Fun!
