under construction, as ever :)

Sewing plans

January 31st, 2008 Posted in creativity, gadgets

Last saturday I bought myself a sewing machine, the Janome DC3050. The best feature for me is the adjustable speed, but beyond that it’s also supposed to be sturdy (e.g. it won’t break if I make it go trough several layers of tight fabric) and it has tons of other neat options :)

I have so far only made a dress for a pluche bear so I could try out its seaming and embroidery capabilities, but somewhere this week I’ll get to work on a more useful project. I have some fabric laying around that seems fit for a winter-version of this purse/bag. Some of the other bag/purse patterns I came across and liked are: silk pleated & darted purse of prettiness, pleated tote and clutch purse. Not all are suited for everyday use but I like them and they’ll be good to strengthen my skills.

Once I get the hang of it again I’d like to move on to making clothes: since I’m a bit taller and more err.. ’rounded’ than regular stores assume, I’m looking forward to have some pants made out of other fabric than jeans. Hence Faragon and me are going to attend a sewing course later this month: although we can usually figure out how to get things done it will be nice to have some directions from more experienced people :)

But then, the all-important question: does it run Linux?
